Built by people
who learned the
hard way.
We build private phones and anonymous connectivity tools for a world that deserves better than surveillance capitalism.

Privacy is not a feature. It's not a setting. It's not a premium upgrade. It's a fundamental human right — and we're here to give it back to you.
From the other side.
The story of how a group of teenage hackers became the people building tools to fight surveillance.
Curious minds.
Our founders were teenage hackers in the early 2010s — restless, curious, and obsessed with understanding how systems worked. We took things apart not to break them, but to learn.
Arrested by the FBI.
That curiosity crossed lines we didn't fully appreciate. Members of our founding team were arrested for unauthorized access to corporate networks. The interrogations, court proceedings, and aftermath taught us exactly how much data the state and corporations collect about you. Every text. Every call. Every keystroke.
From hackers to defenders.
After our cases were resolved, we did the only honest thing: we became cybersecurity experts. We worked for security firms, advised journalists, audited critical infrastructure, and watched the surveillance industry grow into a trillion-dollar machine.
LainCollective begins.
By 2020, we'd seen enough. We started building privacy phones — first for friends and activists, then for anyone who wanted one. No KYC. No accounts. No surveillance. Just hardware that respects you.
A non-profit movement.
We operate as a non-profit collective. Every dollar after costs goes back into making private hardware more accessible: better software, lower prices, broader distribution, and free guides for the community. We're not here to extract value. We're here to redistribute it.
The world's #1 distributor of privacy phones.
Privacy shouldn't be a luxury reserved for technologists, journalists, and activists.
It should be the default.
What we stand for.
Six principles that guide every decision we make.
Privacy by Default
Every product we ship is designed to protect you out of the box. No setup wizards. No opt-outs. No 'review your privacy settings.' Privacy isn't a feature — it's the foundation.
Radical Transparency
Don't trust us — verify us. We use only open-source software, publish our security practices, and welcome independent audits. Trust must be earned, not assumed.
Accessible to All
Privacy tools shouldn't require a computer science degree. We design for everyone — from the technically curious to people who just want their phone to stop spying on them.
Digital Sovereignty
You should own your devices, your data, and your communications — not rent them from corporations. We build tools that put you in complete control.
Mission Over Profit
We operate as a non-profit collective. Every dollar above costs funds research, education, and lower prices for those who need privacy most. We don't have shareholders — we have a community.
Resistance to Surveillance
Mass surveillance is incompatible with a free society. We refuse to participate in it — and we refuse to make it easy for others to do so. Every phone we ship is a small act of resistance.
Join the movement.
Whether you buy a Lain Phone, donate to support our mission, or just spread the word — every action helps build a world where privacy is the default.
